Five: In Which Klaus Goes into Overdrive
[Klaus wasn't here for Westport. He doesn't know about the Hazmat men like so many people here do. But he's good enough at reading a population to realize that they are bad, bad news. And then there was the phonecall from Susan...
Sickening. That's what it was. Sickening, inhuman, vile. All over one escapee, who had been in no state to tell anyone anything anyway. Still, he's not going to argue how pointless this may or may not be. His first priority is seeing that those he cares about are safe and still in possession of all of their limbs.]
[Phone; Filtered to Empress, Fran, Sleipnir; Action for Chrome should she be in the house and able to overhear]
I want a roll-call. Now. Just a quick assurance that none of you are dead or dying will suffice. Sleipnir, I want you at my house in ten minutes. You are still under my protection regardless of what reality we are currently in, and I will not allow any harm to come to you unless it is over my dead body.
[After he makes his phonecall, Klaus sets to work. He has no weapons. His medclank, while impressive in size, is too slow, clunky, and not properly weaponized to be of any good to him. But let it never be said that Baron Wulfenbach is a stupid man -- even if his inventions are not weaponized to his standards, they always have the potential.
Those who pass 729 Anderson lane will hear loud clanking and buzzing and metallic noises coming from inside the half-open garage. The empty body of the medclank lays outside -- and inside, Klaus works to destroy what little progress he and Theta had made on the controls and engine components. There are plenty of parts in there alone that could be crafted into several proper weapons; a gun, perhaps. If Sleipnir comes as he told her to -- and if Dist shows up -- well. Time would tell.
For now, he continues to dismantle, occasionally setting aside promising-looking bits of metal. Even if he can't have a gun, he can do his best to craft a sword. That should not be outside of his realm of expertise, even without his Spark.]

I'm here with Tsuna and the others--they'll take care of me and we're working on a plan right now.
[And then there's a pause, but Kalus can probably hear the quiet conversation of Empress and another familiar voice:
"Ah, do you know him, Chrome?"
]
Klaus? Chrome is here; do you wish to speak with her?
no subject
Yes. I would.
[He waits a little for the phone to pass hands.]
Chrome, I am not angry. I merely wish you would have told me you were leaving. The streets are the farthest possible thing from 'safe' right now.
no subject
...I didn't mean to cause you worry. I promise I'll be... back when I can. [because saying 'I'll be home' sounds too strange and familial for her]
no subject
[He sighs.]
But I trust Tsuna and his crowd. Good luck.

[Has not been standing on the porch of her house, watching the Hazmat teams go by. And no, there's not a distinct note of tension in her voice when she answers that call.] I... I'm fine. I'll be there soon.
[See that? That lack of argument, snark, or other types of mouthing off? That's how you know the situation has her rattled.
But, sure enough, she'd be coming up on the Baron's house not ten minutes later. Any suspicions of her being unsettled are confirmed by the big ass pipe wrench (http://static.howstuffworks.com/gif/pipe-wrench-1.jpg) that she's carrying with her when she ducks to peek under the garage door.]
...Baron?
[Learned long ago not to surprise a Spark. Granted, he's not Sparky right now... but better safe than sorry.]
no subject
Excellent. I honestly was not sure whether you would come. Come in, and quickly, before another troupe of Hazmats passes.
[The garage is in chaos. There are pieces of dismantled medclank everywhere. It almost feels like home!]
no subject
With everything that's going on, where else am I going to go?
[And surprisingly, being surrounded by the mess of mechanical parts was helping her settle herself. At least a little.]
Are they looking for that man that officer was after? Or is this all just some big scare tactic?
no subject
[For just a moment, his business-like tone softens.]
I truly am sorry that you arrived in the midst of such chaos. If there is anything you need...
[You're one of his girls now, Sleipnir. Along with Empress and Fran and Chrome. That means you get priority.]
no subject
Who's the girl?
[He's also carrying a small box under one arm.]
no subject
[A little uncertain at seeing this side of him, she offered a faint smile.
Dist's arrival distracts her from saying anything else, and the expression she wears becomes a bit more guarded. At his question, she arches an eyebrow.]
Sleipnir. And who are you?
no subject
Sleipnir, this is Dist, an ally of mine and what is equivalent to a Spark in his world. Dist, this is Sleipnir O'Hara, one of my students and an excellent Mechanic.
I expect you both to be civil to one another, at the very least.
[He's looking at you, Dist.]
Now. I know you have your Kaiser, Dist -- but Sleipnir and I both lack weapons. This mountain of scrap and this engine are yours to do with as you wish -- provided what you churn out is usable and fairly low-maintenance.
Sleipnir, how much do you know about the forging of swords?
no subject
[He turns to Sleipnir, looking her over.]
As long as you can keep up with me, I have no complaints.
no subject
[...oh. Oh. OH. It's gonna be like that, is it?]
[Sugar sweet smile. And eyes that want to see Dist kicked into traffic.]
I'm sure we'll be just fine!
no subject
All the 'components' you have access to are in this room, or on the shell of the medclank outside. Feel free to utterly demolish the car as well; I have little use for it.
[He shows Sleipnir some of the bits he's already set aside; there is metal there that could be turned into serviceable, if awkward looking, blades.
It's funny, but this is probably the best he's felt in all his time in Mayfield. This is his element.]
no subject
Yes, I think we will.
[Determined not to let some stupid girl ruin his mood, he pulls the box he'd brought with him, hesitating a bit before opening it. There's a decently-sized chunk of yellow crystal inside, roughly the length of Dist's forearm.]
I brought a fonstone fragment, chipped off from the Kaiser's power supply. There's a similar chip in my false eye. It's not unlimited power, but it's more reliable than anything this wretched town has, and it'll let me do more with the actual robot. Since you have no fonons, any fontech will have to be constructed very carefully.
[He's quiet for a moment, then puffs himself up again.]
But this is only for the experiment! If you're going to be backing me up, I need you to be in top form! I can't rely on a half-baked shadow of my Kaiser to watch my back!
no subject
Hmm... These should work. I'm going to have to get creative though, unless you're hiding a forge in the backyard.
[Rolls up her sleeves, and starts rummaging for parts to make serviceable hilts. Oh. And TOOLS, since this wretched place TOOK HERS.
Crai.]
